Margalla Avenue Extension

Capital Development Authority

The Margalla Avenue Extension is a major road development project designed to improve north south connectivity in Islamabad and provide a faster alternative route for commuters traveling between western sectors and the city center. The extension aims to link Margalla Avenue with key arterial roads, reduce pressure on Kashmir Highway and support better access to new residential zones being developed under Islamabad’s long term master plan.

The project includes construction of a new roadway, widening of existing sections, development of interchanges, installation of street lighting, drainage improvements and modern traffic management features. The extended corridor is planned to offer smooth and safe travel while reducing congestion on parallel routes. It also enhances connectivity for upcoming sectors and supports planned expansion toward the western side of the capital.

The extension is being developed under the supervision of the Capital Development Authority with a focus on durable engineering, improved mobility and sustainable urban growth. Once completed, the project will play a key role in strengthening Islamabad’s transport network and boosting accessibility across developing sectors.
