The WASA Khayaban‑e‑Firdowsi Trunk Sewer Project is a major wastewater infrastructure initiative being implemented by the Water and Sanitation Agency Lahore (WASA) to replace and upgrade an aging sewer line in Johar Town and surrounding areas of Lahore. The existing trunk sewer line in this corridor, which was laid several decades ago, had deteriorated and caused recurring ruptures, blockages, sinkholes and service disruptions. The replacement project aims to improve wastewater conveyance, reduce sewer failures, and support the city’s growing sanitation needs.
The project involves the construction and installation of new high-capacity trunk sewer pipelines with diameters of approximately 66 inches to 72 inches along a stretch of about 4.15 km from Showk Chowk to Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Johar Town. In addition, an underground sewer line is being laid beneath Nazaria Pakistan Road to enhance wastewater flow capacity and reduce reliance on older, deteriorating infrastructure. The estimated cost of the project is about Rs 1.9 billion, with works focusing on trench excavation, pipeline laying and associated civil works to provide a durable drainage solution for the area. WASA officials have emphasized the importance of timely completion with modern technical standards to ensure effective long-term performance of the sewer network.
