The Kachhi Canal Project is a large-scale irrigation initiative designed to support agricultural development across selected districts of Punjab and Balochistan. The canal off takes from Taunsa Barrage and serves Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts in Punjab, along with Dera Bugti, Nasirabad, Bolan and Jhal Magsi districts in Balochistan. The primary objective of the project is to increase agricultural production and strengthen regional food security.

The main canal has a total length of five hundred kilometers, with Phase One covering four hundred three kilometers. A total of three hundred ninety one kilometers of the canal is lined across Punjab and Balochistan. The canal has a carrying capacity of six thousand cusecs. The project also includes one thousand five hundred kilometers of branches, distributaries and minors, with Phase One covering one hundred five kilometers. The total cultivable command area is seven hundred thirteen thousand acres, while Phase One covers one hundred two thousand acres, out of which seventy-two thousand acres in District Dera Bugti have been completed.

The project aims to bring significant economic and environmental benefits by improving land productivity, enhancing water availability and supporting better climate and environmental conditions. It also contributes to improved quality of life through positive socio economic and socio-cultural impacts. The project is expected to deliver crop benefits valued at approximately five billion rupees per year, supporting livelihoods and regional economic growth.
