The Dasu Dam Hydropower Project is a major renewable energy initiative planned on the Indus River and designed to be developed in two stages. The total planned installed capacity of the project is 4,320 megawatts. At present, WAPDA is constructing Stage One of the project with an installed capacity of 2,160 megawatts, which is expected to generate around 12 billion units of low cost and environment friendly electricity annually. The project plays an important role in strengthening Pakistan’s clean energy portfolio and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The dam is planned as a roller compacted concrete structure with a reservoir area of approximately 115 square kilometers. The project includes spillway structures and a large storage system with a gross storage capacity of 8.10 MAF and live storage of 6.40 MAF. Power generation will be achieved through multiple turbine units, each designed to contribute to efficient and reliable electricity output. Once fully completed, the project is expected to significantly improve national power generation capacity and grid stability.
