Bhatti Gate Project

Walled City of Lahore

Bhatti Gate Project is a heritage conservation and urban rehabilitation project by the Walled City of Lahore Authority, covering Bhatti Gate and the trail up to Katri Haji Allah Bakhsh, also known as Taveela Shaikhen. The project is funded by the World Bank through the Punjab Tourism Economic Growth Programme and was launched with an estimated cost of Rs 1.730 billion to restore the historic character of one of Lahore’s most important gates.

The project includes façade rehabilitation, infrastructure improvement, removal of encroachments, underground utility works, roof treatment, flooring, fresco lining, illumination and conservation of the gate structure. It also aims to improve the surrounding historic trail, rehabilitate heritage properties and convert parts of the gate area into tourist facilities, including a tourist centre and craft bazaar, supporting both heritage tourism and better living standards for residents.

WCLA is developing the Bhatti Gate Project with a focus on heritage preservation, tourism revival and urban infrastructure improvement inside the historic Walled City of Lahore. The project holds strong cultural value because Bhatti Gate is linked with literary, artistic and historic personalities, while its rehabilitation is expected to strengthen the area as a major tourist hub similar to Delhi Gate.
