The Balochistan Effluent Disposal into RBOD (RBOD III) Project is a major drainage and environmental management initiative designed to provide effective effluent disposal facilities for existing and proposed drainage systems in Balochistan and Sindh. The project covers Nasirabad and Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan along with Jacobabad and Kambar Shahdadkot districts of Sindh. Its primary objective is to address long standing waterlogging and drainage issues that have affected agricultural productivity and environmental conditions in the region.
The project has been executed by WAPDA with consultancy support provided by national and international firms. Construction activities were carried out through various contractors over different phases. Work on the project commenced in July 2004 and was completed in June 2021 with overall physical progress reaching one hundred percent. Operation and maintenance responsibilities have been assigned to the respective provincial irrigation departments. The completed works in Balochistan were handed over to the Government of Balochistan by December 2021, while the Government of Sindh has yet to assume full operation and maintenance responsibility for completed works in Sindh.
