LESCO Consumers Reportedly Get Shockingly High Bills

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is facing a major crisis as thousands of consumers have received highly inflated electricity bills due to a severe shortage of functioning meters. NEPRA has taken notice and demanded an explanation from LESCO Chief Muhammad Ramzan Butt. Official data shows that LESCO has 102,000 defective or burnt single-phase meters and 2,400 faulty three-phase meters. The shortage—ongoing for six months—has forced consumers to pay heavy estimated bills under defective meter codes. NEPRA stated that LESCO failed to maintain the mandatory stock of meters, violating regulatory requirements. Protests continue as consumers report financial strain, repeated office visits, and even false electricity theft accusations. Despite thousands paying millions in demand notices, meter installations remain delayed due to procurement issues.
