Net metering has emerged as Pakistan’s most economical power source, with DISCOs purchasing 573.7 million units of solar-generated electricity over the last four months. This surge comes despite ongoing proposals to revise net metering tariffs. Because solar net metering energy has zero fuel cost, it has directly helped reduce monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) for all consumers. NEPRA has already included this zero-cost contribution in its latest FCA decisions, easing the overall financial burden on power companies nationwide. Monthly procurement rose steadily: 115 million units in July, 111 million in August, 142.6 million in September, and the highest in October. MEPCO, IESCO, and LESCO led these purchases. Officials confirm that growing solar-fed net metering is stabilizing Pakistan’s power costs.
