Pakistan has decided to construct a major dam on the River Chenab to counter what officials describe as India’s growing water aggression under the Indus Waters Treaty. The decision aims to secure Pakistan’s long-term water resources, improve irrigation reliability, and reduce vulnerability during low-flow seasons. Authorities say the new dam will enhance water storage capacity, support agriculture, and help manage emergency situations resulting from India’s upstream projects. The initiative is part of a broader national effort to strengthen water security amid increasing climate challenges, glacier melt variability, and regional tensions over shared rivers. Officials emphasized that the project will be developed with modern hydropower and flood-control features, ensuring Pakistan’s agricultural heartlands remain protected from future water shortages
