Murree Rainwater Harvesting

The Urban Unit

Murree Rainwater Harvesting is an environmental conservation initiative designed to capture, store and utilize rainwater in the hilly regions of Murree. The project aims to reduce dependency on groundwater, manage seasonal water shortages and support sustainable water supply for local communities and tourism areas. By using natural rainfall effectively, the initiative helps protect the environment and strengthen long term water security in the region.

The development includes construction of small reservoirs, rooftop harvesting systems, filtration units, recharge wells and improved drainage channels to collect rainwater efficiently. Collected water is stored for household use, irrigation and community needs, while excess water helps replenish underground aquifers. The project also promotes awareness among residents and businesses about the benefits of harvesting rain and adopting water saving practices.

Government authorities are implementing Murree Rainwater Harvesting with a focus on sustainability, climate resilience and improved resource management. Once fully expanded, the initiative will support cleaner water availability, reduced wastage and healthier environmental conditions across Murree.
