The Islamabad Expressway Expansion Project is a major infrastructure initiative by the Capital Development Authority designed to improve mobility, reduce congestion and support long term urban growth in the capital city. The expressway is one of Islamabad’s most important traffic corridors, linking the city center with major residential zones and connecting onwards to Rawalpindi. The expansion aims to provide faster, safer and more efficient travel for daily commuters.
The project includes widening of the expressway, construction of additional lanes, development of interchanges, improvement of service roads, installation of lighting systems and upgrades to drainage and safety features. These enhancements help accommodate increasing traffic volumes and reduce bottlenecks during peak hours. The improved corridor also strengthens access to housing sectors, commercial areas and public institutions along the route.
