Pakistan’s national power regulator is reviewing a proposal that may lead to higher electricity bills for households and industries in fiscal year 2026. During a public hearing, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) suggested setting the national power purchase price between Rs. 25.69 and 26.69 per unit. Since this benchmark directly impacts consumer tariffs, businesses warn that such an increase could further slow industrial growth and maintain high energy costs. Nepra Chairman Wasim Mukhtar oversaw the session, while Member Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh criticized the proposal as incomplete. Industry representatives raised concerns about the impact of currency depreciation and rising fuel costs. Nepra will continue evaluating the application and is expected to finalize the national power purchase price later this year.
