Karachi is expected to face a major water shortage of nearly 100 million gallons per day (MGD) after a severe power breakdown disrupted operations at the Dhabeji Pumping Station early Sunday morning. According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the failure occurred at 6:35am in Phase-II of the station, shutting down four main pumps and damaging the 72-inch Line No. 5. The disruption affects supply to key areas including East and Central districts, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, and Korangi.Partial pumping resumed after power was restored to two pumps at 9am, while emergency repairs continue on the damaged line. KWSC expects full restoration by Monday, with teams working round-the-clock to minimise the shortage and stabilise the system.
