Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari announced that electricity prices have been reduced by 10.5% over the past 18 months, saving billions through technical reforms in the energy sector. Addressing a joint press conference with the finance and IT ministers, he said circular debt has been reduced by Rs. 700 billion in one year. Leghari revealed that automatic metering and prepaid systems are being introduced to ensure transparency and improve billing efficiency. He added that Pakistan will no longer buy electricity directly, marking a major reform in power procurement. The minister highlighted progress in reducing losses of distribution companies, auctioning dead plants, and modernizing governance to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure and financial stability.
