Lahore plans Defence Mor upgrade to ease traffic

Lahore: Authorities are planning a major traffic improvement project at Defence Mor, one of Lahore’s busiest intersections, to address congestion and improve mobility. The proposal includes widening the turning lane from 22 feet to 33 feet following inspections and consultations led by Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi. According to officials, the redesign could increase the intersection’s vehicle-handling capacity from approximately 6,000 vehicles per hour to nearly 9,000 vehicles per hour. Average travel speeds are also expected to improve significantly, reducing delays for commuters. Enhanced road infrastructure and smoother traffic flow can increase accessibility, support commercial activity, and positively influence property values in surrounding areas. Can this upgrade become a model for future traffic management projects in Lahore?
