China unveils ultra-fast EV charging hub with 97% charge in just 9 minutes

China: A major breakthrough in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure has been achieved as Shell, in collaboration with BYD, launched a mega EV charging hub in Shenzhen. The facility features 258 ultra-fast charging points and can serve up to 3,300 vehicles daily. Powered partly by rooftop solar energy generating 300,000 kWh annually, the hub also includes modern amenities such as a lounge, café and convenience store. The new charging technology allows EVs to reach up to 70% charge in just five minutes and up to 97% in around nine minutes, delivering over 1,000 km of range. BYD’s advanced 1,500 kW flash charger combined with next-generation Blade Battery technology marks a significant step toward reducing charging time and eliminating range anxiety. Officials say thousands of similar stations are planned across China by 2026, with global expansion expected in the future.
