Punjab approves first AI roadmap to become South Asia’s leading AI province by 2029

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the province’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap aimed at transforming Punjab into South Asia’s leading AI hub by 2029. Under the initiative, the world’s first AI Delivery Unit will be established in Punjab, with the Chief Minister serving as its chairperson. During a briefing by Provincial Advisor for AI Ali Dar, officials shared plans to introduce AI infrastructure, AI governance, job skills development and citizen-focused AI services. The roadmap is expected to create over 100,000 jobs within three years while boosting GDP by 5–10 percent and potentially increasing foreign exchange reserves by $10–20 billion. The plan also includes launching AI governance policies, global tech partnerships, agriculture AI boards and smart environmental monitoring systems such as AI-powered smog control. AI education will also be expanded in schools across Punjab to develop a skilled workforce for the future.
