The Lower Indus Right Bank Irrigation and Drainage Project

Water and Power Development Authority

The Lower Indus Right Bank Irrigation and Drainage Project RBOD-I is a major water management and environmental improvement initiative implemented in Sindh Province. The project is located in the districts of Larkana, Kamber Shahdadkot, Dadu and Jamshoro. It was developed to provide effective outfall facilities for existing and proposed drainage units while rehabilitating the existing drainage network across the region.

The Lower Indus Right Bank Irrigation and Drainage Project RBOD-I was completed in June 2020. The project represents a significant step toward sustainable water management, environmental restoration and agricultural development in Sindh.

The project aims to improve environmental conditions in Manchar Lake and Hamal Lake by managing drainage flows more efficiently. Through improved drainage infrastructure, the project helps reduce waterlogging and salinity, supports healthier ecosystems and creates better conditions for agricultural productivity. The improved drainage system is expected to benefit an area of approximately one point two seven eight million acres, contributing to increased agricultural output and improved land conditions.
