Routes Announced for Karachi’s Double-Decker Bus Service

The Sindh government has announced routes and operational details for Karachi’s upcoming double-decker bus service, set to launch in January 2026. According to officials, a total of 39 buses—including five diesel-powered double-decker buses and 34 electric buses—have been imported from China at a cost of Rs. 3 billion and have arrived at the Karachi Port Trust for clearance. The Sindh Mass Transit Authority confirmed that the double-decker buses will operate on Shahrah-e-Faisal, running between Model Colony and Tower, one of the city’s busiest corridors. Each double-decker bus can carry 115–120 passengers, is fully air-conditioned, and features adjustable roof sections for different weather conditions. The fleet is expected to be inaugurated by Sharjeel Inam Memon. The move marks the return of double-decker buses to Karachi after several decades.
